Central Operations

Central Operations – Low Capital Intensity Restart Opportunity

  • Otjihase is located approximately 30 km North East of Windhoek, Namibia

Mine type:

  • Underground

  • Development (three underground mines – Otjihase, Matchless and Matchless West – and an 800ktpa copper concentrator, currently on care and maintenance)

  • 96.5%

Mineral Resources:

  • 4.40Mt @ 2.27% Cu for 99.7kt (Otjihase) , 1.34Mt @ 2.40% Cu for 31.8kt (Matchless)

Description and features:

  • The operations were in production until September 2015, producing high quality concentrate sought after for blending
  • Mines and concentrator are being maintained ready for immediate restart, with underground workings dewatered and ore faces accessible
  • Operations are on granted Mining Licences, have valid Environmental Clearance certificates and all other required permits
  • The operations are proximate to excellent local infrastructure – adjacent to Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek – secure grid power and water supply, road and/or rail to port, excellent industrial services
  • Co-operation Agreement is in place with holder of adjacent copper projects
  • Geology and metallurgy risks are low and well understood
  • Offtake agreement is in place – concentrate is trucked to Walvis Bay port (app. 420kms) and sold to Louis Dreyfus at point of export

Valuation and upside potential:

  • Capital realisation through optimised design and reduced footwall development (Matchless mines)
  • Improvement of exploration target through down-dip and western prospect expansion (Matchless mines)
  • Production rate increases (Otjihase)
  • Backfill optimisation to increase recovery (Otjihase)
  • Recovery of pillar inventory for further resource upside (Otjihase)
  • Improving copper price environment (Otjihase and Matchless mines)
